As summer is finally approaching and the weather starts to warm up in the Catalonian capital, we start getting ready for those exciting ALMOST-summer activities, such as wearing shorts for the first time in months, going to the beach to get the tanning going, and getting tickets for our favorite festivals. The Primavera Sound is one of the first big music festivals in Barcelona, and this year is taking place from May 30th to June 2nd at Parc del Fòrum. The city will be welcoming more than 180 different music groups and artists, the festival headlights are Interpol, Tame Impala, Miley Cyrus, J Balvin, Erykah Badu, Solange, Janelle Monáe, Future and Rosalía.
Although many of us have been to the festival before, we wanted to share the top tips for first-timers to ensure they get the most from their experience at Primavera Sound Festival.
What to wear?
Check the weather before- this is very important. The Barcelona sun can lead you into being hot and sweaty as hell, but when the sun goes down the temperature drops, big time. So, as it is already May and summer weather approaches, we recommend wearing nice and comfortable light clothing, and perhaps throwing a windbreaker coat, it will block the wind and weather without overheating. You might as well need to prepare for a rainy day, bring a raincoat, an umbrella or a poncho to keep you dry.
Let's start with tips before arriving at the venue. The festival main acts take place from the early evening until 6 am, so you've got plenty of time to explore the city before listening to your favorite artists. If you are looking for exciting things to see in the city, check out our other blogs where we write about the main activities that take place in Barcelona.
We recommend hitting the city in the early morning and taking a quick nap before going to El Parc del Fòrum, this way you are festival reading-- ready to rally!
What to eat?
Take a bite before arriving at the festival, you don't want to waste your energy at being famished, instead, check out our blog The best Paellas in Barcelona and eat one beforehand. There are food trucks at the festival and generally, the quality is good although pricey.
What stage to go first?
Make a priority list of the artists you want to see and check the timetables to try making the best out every stage. Like every other festival, there will be some bands playing at the same time, but don’t fear to miss your favorite bands, you will have time to check out different stages as the Forum is so compact.
How to get home?
Don't forget you'll have to go home after all the fun. We recommend that once you have exited the Forum, to walk to Ave Diagonal where you can find a taxi. Green means they are available and yellow that won't stop- literally, no matter how hard you wave your hands. To avoid the struggle, check out our closest apartments to the forum.
What to bring?
Here is a friendly list of our top 10 priorities:
Verified Tickets –Have the code ready on your phone, or even better print them before leaving the apartment.
ID/Cash – this essential. Don’t leave these at home.
Keys – Store your apartment keys in a safe place so you don't lose them, you will be grateful once you get home trashed.
Directions – to the apartment (closest metro or bus stops)
Festival Maps & Set Times – So you can locate your favorite bands and know what time they play.
Camera – You’ll likely want to remember these concerts, we promise.
Phone – Download the Primavera sound app and bring a portable charger to stay connected during the event.
